It was hard to do but I did it. I got myself ready and my 2 month old baby fed, bathed and clothed and out the door by 9:15 am. This morning at 10am, Connor and I went to our first movie together. The movie was called 'The Holiday' starring my fav, Cameron Diaz. It was playing through a program for parents and babies called 'Reel Babies'. I went with a girl from my Pre-natal class. We all had a great time. My friend and I were like little girls trying to fit in as much conversation as we could into the short period of time before the movie started...this wasn't enough time so we continued to chat through the previews as well as through the beginning, middle and end of the movie. We decided our next 'Mommy date' needed to be at one of our houses so we can chat a little more. Anyhoo, this was a great experience. Not only did it get me and Connor out of the house for the first time but I got to enjoy my first movie in over 3 months.
I didn't know what to expect of this 'Reel Babies' program but it was the real deal. After standing outside the theatre socializing with other Mom's (which is great in itself), we proceeded into the theatre and 'parked' our strollers. We then walked into theatre and the first thing I see is a change table and think 'what a great idea', until I come around the corner and realize a change table is not the only idea these people have thought of. The theatre is filled with baby swings, vibrating chairs and baby gyms to name a few. There are three change tables as well as a microwave with a dish of water outside of it for warming up milk. These people have thought of everything!!! As a sit my angelic, sleeping baby's car seat on the chair beside me, I watch as the other Mom's file in...and I realize I did not come prepared like some of these other Mom's did. They brought toys, breastfeeding pillows, blankets, you name it, they thought of it.
I think my favorite part of the whole thing was how comforting it was to be in a place that people didn't stare at you because your baby is crying...because all of their babies are crying too!!
Did I mention that Connor was an angel? He was so good the whole time. He slept soundly until there was about 10 minutes left of the movie and then he cried a little until I took him out of his seat. Once I sat him on my lap facing the movie screen - he was in heaven for the rest of the movie. He loves our TV at home so you can imagine how much he loved the big screen!
Can't wait for our next adventure...
