Guess what award I won? The Worst Mom in The World Award!!!!! I awarded it to myself on Tuesday, Septemeber 18th, just a little after 7am. This prestigious award is only given to the best of contenders...but I won by a landslide today!
I was in the kitchen doing what I thought deserved The Best Mom in The World Award; making Mike and Connor pancakes. Mike was sleeping in a bit since he was up until 2am last night (Best dad in The World Nominee) and Connor was playing with the not so installed baby gate. Mike has started installing this baby gate to keep Connor out of the living room. This room just isn't baby proofed and we decided we want at least one "Adult" room in the house; which I'm unsure why since no 'Adults' live in this house!?!?! Before the half installed gate was installed, Connor used to beeline it for a cupboard in the living room that contains all of our matches...not a good sign, can you say 'Pyro'? But since the half installed gate has been half installed, Connor has found delight in swinging the gate back and fourth, and back and fourth (a cognitive step up from chewing on remotes, I think!). So even though I knew the non childproofed living room was accessible to Connor, I wrongfully assumed that the swinging back and fourth of the half installed baby gate would keep him occupied (as it has been doing for a week) while I made his breakfast. Just as I was pondering where I would put my Best Mom of the Year Award, I heard a very loud thump and a monstrous cry from my sweet little baby. I ran into the living room and there was Connor, sitting on the floor with our very heavy, sharp lamp laying on the floor beside him. He had pulled the cord of the lamp and it fell and hit him in the head! I know...so sad! As for the war wounds, he has a bump the size of an egg (slight exaggeration) on his forehead, with a small cut on top. He also has a little bruise under his eye. The worst part is that I know better. I know that babies tend to pull on lamp cords. I know I shouldn't ever let him have access to that room. Which makes me feel all the worse. Now the existence of that huge bump and cut on Connor's head will be a constant reminder of my award. Yay me!
Update: After this happened, Mike 'MacGyvered' the gate so as to avoid any future bumps and bruises...see pictures for visual.
